The story begins with Dr. Rohit Shetty (Naseeruddin Shah), a renowned scientist who works for a top-secret research facility. He discovers a hidden cave while on an expedition, where he finds an alien named Krrish (Hrithik Roshan). Krrish is an extraterrestrial being with superhuman abilities, sent to Earth as a child when his spaceship crashed. Dr. Shetty takes Krrish in and raises him as his own son.
